Accessibility

PappAI is designed to be usable by everyone. Here is what we support and how to report any issues.

Version 1.0 · In force · 16 June 2026

1. Mobile app (iOS and Android)

The PappAI patient app is built with SwiftUI (iOS) and Jetpack Compose (Android), frameworks that provide native integration with platform accessibility services.

  • VoiceOver (iOS) / TalkBack (Android): all primary screens are navigable with the system screen reader. Interactive elements have descriptive labels.
  • Dynamic Text / Font Size: the app respects the system text size setting, including the largest accessibility sizes. Layouts adapt without clipping text.
  • Bold Text: the app honours the Bold Text accessibility option on iOS.
  • Reduce Motion: entrance animations and transitions are suppressed when Reduce Motion is enabled in system settings.
  • Dark Mode: full dark mode support with sufficient contrast in both light and dark schemes.
  • Voice Control (iOS): interactive elements have unique, descriptive labels that allow reliable navigation by voice.

Some complex features (meal photo capture, PDF plan viewing) may have reduced accessibility support. We are working to improve coverage in future updates.

2. Web dashboard (app.pappai.it)

The nutritionist web dashboard is built with React and shadcn/ui components, which follow WAI-ARIA standards.

  • Keyboard navigation: all core workflows are accessible via keyboard (Tab, Enter, arrow keys). Focus indicators are always visible.
  • Screen readers: headings, landmarks, and ARIA labels are used consistently across all main screens.
  • Colour contrast: text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast ratios.
  • Dark Mode: the dashboard supports system-level dark mode preference.
  • Responsive design: the interface adapts to different viewport sizes and browser zoom levels up to 200%.

3. Public website (pappai.it)

This public website uses semantic HTML and is navigable with keyboard and screen readers. All images have descriptive alt text. The cookie consent banner and all forms are keyboard-accessible.

  • Skip-to-content link: keyboard and screen-reader users can jump straight past the repeated header and navigation on every page.
  • Colour contrast: text and interactive elements have been checked to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast ratios.
  • Semantic structure: sequential steps use ordered lists, and data tables use proper row/column headers, so screen readers can announce their structure correctly.
  • Live announcements: dynamic content such as chat replies and form errors is announced automatically to screen readers, without needing to search for it.
  • Full keyboard operability: every interactive control, including the chat widget and toggles, can be operated and closed without a mouse.

4. Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas that need improvement:

  • Charts and nutrition graphs on the mobile app do not yet have full VoiceOver/TalkBack descriptions.
  • Some third-party embedded content (PDF viewer) may not be fully accessible.
  • Subtitle/caption support for in-app video content is not yet implemented.

We are committed to improving accessibility with each release. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know.

5. Contact us

If you experience accessibility barriers while using PappAI, or if you have suggestions for improvement, please contact us:

  • Email: support@pappai.it: include "Accessibility" in the subject line.
  • We aim to respond within 5 business days and to resolve reported barriers as quickly as possible.

6. Feedback and continuous improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. We review and update our app and website regularly with the goal of meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA across all features. User feedback is our most valuable input. Thank you for helping us improve PappAI for everyone.
